WIN Television Griffith commenced transmission on 15
December 1965 as Murrumbidgee Television Limited,
MTN-9.

It continued as a stand alone station until about 1973 when it was obvious that program costs were far outstripping the advertising revenue being generated.

A deal was then entered into with CBN-8, Orange and MTN-9 then became part of Midstate Television (CBN-8, Orange, CWN-6, Dubbo and MTN-9 Griffith).

This enabled MTN9 to take programs on relay. These were
primarily Seven network programs, however there was such a public outcry regarding the loss of the "soapies" that MTN-9 continued to screen them, over the top of the CBN-8 Movies.

In 1991 Aggregation came to regional television, however, because of the size of our viewing area, it was decided that MTN-9 was not a viable option. Therefore they were omitted. At this time, a decision was made to enter into a programming arrangement with WIN Television in Wollongong for the supply of programs from them. This meant that the majority of the programs were now Nine Network and some of the old Seven favourites disappeared from the screens, although AFL and other major sporting programs were still covered on MTN-9.

In 1996 MTN-9 successfully applied for, and was given, a supplementary television licence, but not before a protracted legal battle. This then enabled them to screen Seven network programs on a second channel, thus giving viewers a greater choice. At times, some sporting events covered by the TEN Network are shown on either WIN or the second service.

Over these years MTN-9, after having initially been a
publicly listed company, had several owners including Henry Jones IXL, The Linter Group, Broadcast Operations, and  Broadcast & Communications Limited.

In 1998, at the age of 70, Ray Gamble, who was one of the owners at the time, decided that it was time to retire and he sold MTN-9 to WIN Television Pty Limited, but remained, however, as a "hands on" co
nsultant - overseeing the day-to-day running of the station, until finally retiring in 2002.

This means that Griffith is now part of the huge WIN Television Network, covering all states of Australia except the Northern Territory.
